The Time Bomb of the Urban Poor

In 2007  the world will pass a critical point when the majority of its 6 billion people will live in urban areas.

One-third will be slum dwellers

In sub-Saharan Africa, 72 percent of the urban population live in slums today.

By 2030, the urban population of Africa will be larger than the total population of Europe.

Nine percent of the world's people now live in megacities; in 1975 it was four percent.

The trend is accelerating and by 2030, nearly 4 billion people, or 80 percent of the world's urban dwellers, will live in cities of the developing world.

Instability and urban warfare may be the wave of the future.
